A First-Time Vaper? Here’s How to Choose the Right E-Juice

Vaping has become an alternative to traditional cigarette or tobacco products. You need to enjoy vaping—not just the act of vaping, but the entire experience—if you want to be a successful vaper.

The experience of smoking was one of routine and familiarity for years, and now you’re faced with an entirely different way to get your nicotine: vaping. It can feel awkward and confusing at first.

The selection of products and options can be overwhelming for new vapers because it’s all so new and because there really hasn’t been enough time to develop streamlined production methods that would make vapour devices as simple as cigarettes.

E-liquid today has entered the market with a wide spectrum of tastes, flavours and choices.  Here, we will help you find the right e-liquid flavour for you.

What Is E-Liquid?

You’ve probably seen the e-liquid for sale at various vape shops across town, but what is it?

E-liquid, otherwise known as vape juice, is the liquid used to produce the vapour that you inhale when you vape.

The liquid is made up of five main ingredients:

  • Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
  • Propylene Glycol (PG)
  • Nicotine
  • Flavouring
  • Water

How Does E-Liquid Work?

The process for how e-liquid works is as follows:

A heating element, usually a coil, is turned on and heats the juice to a temperature where it vapourises. A mouthpiece allows you to inhale the vapour from the coil.

The e-liquid is a blend of VG and PG, creating the vapour you smoke. Different ratios of these create different types of vapes, such as strong hits or vapour clouds.

The e-liquid also has a higher nicotine concentration, usually between 3-18mg/ml, than tobacco cigarettes.

The more smoke you want to create, the more concentrated the VG and PG mix is. This is why it’s more smoke-like than vapour-like. The water in the e-liquid also helps to regulate and cool the coil.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is a clear and odourless liquid. It carries flavour and creates the vapour for e-liquids.

It is also found in various foods and cosmetic products and is one of the main ingredients used in fog machines.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable glycerin is fat-based and is extracted from plant oils. It is clear and odourless and is used in cosmetics, food and medical products.

Nicotine

There is a high concentration of nicotine in e-liquid. It is an addictive stimulant in cigarettes.

Food Flavourings

Flavourings are often used for e-liquids. Before these were available, e-liquids had to be plain.

Now, you can mix different flavours to create new tastes. The main ingredients are water, flavouring, PG or VG, nicotine and food colouring. The flavourings are usually made of chemicals, tobacco extract, herbs, fruits, vegetables, resins and oils.

Plant Extracts

There are many plants used in flavouring e-liquids. Most of them are grown and harvested in the US and UK and sent to the Netherlands and China to be processed and used for flavouring.

The ingredients can come from:

  • Citrus fruits
  • Minerals
  • Flowers
  • Honey
  • Hops
  • Liquorice root
  • Vanilla
  • Mint
