Vaping 101: How Temperature Affects Your Vaping Experience

Did you know that vaping in the heat is a little different to vaping in the cold? You might have experienced this when you were enjoying drags during wintertime and suddenly feel like something is a bit different.

The answer is simple: vape juice gets thinner when temperatures are higher, such as during the summer. Knowing this piece of information is crucial, as it will affect your entire vaping experience. With that said, here is why your e-juice becomes thinner during warmer seasons and what you can do to keep a consistent vaping experience.

Why is my vape juice thinner during hotter seasons?

Remember, your e-juice is generally a blend of vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). The ratio of the two will not only change how the e-juice reacts when vaporized, but the severity of the "thinning" will also differ.

For instance, e-juices that contain much higher amounts of PG are already thin, to begin with. When the temperature rises, this will be even more noticeable. On the other hand, e-juice that has a higher amount of VG will not change as much and will retain its thick consistency. Although high-VG vape juice will still thin out, the difference will be minimal compared to that of a high-PG vape juice.

What can I do to address the thinning?

Fortunately, the answer to thinning is quite a simple one. If you find that your e-juices thin out a little too much than you would like, you will have to look for blends that contain more amounts of VG. In fact, if you were using a 70/30 ratio of PG to VG, you can still get more or less the same hit by using a 50/50 ratio instead. While it will always be thicker than the former ratio, it will maintain its experience even when the temperature changes.

If you are unsure about the PG/VG concentration of your e-juice, simply check the label—most e-juice bottles will come with a PG/VG description imprinted on it. All you have to do is to look for that info! Otherwise, if nothing is on the label, you can visit the manufacturer's website to get what you need. With that in mind, the next time you go out to buy e-juice, pay attention to the ratio, especially if you live in a climate that tends to get hotter!

Do note that once temperatures do drop, the high-VG vape juice will get even thicker—so now you are given the option to switch back to higher PG juices.

What else can I do other than changing e-juice?

Other than swapping your e-juices out for higher-VG ones, there are a few other things you can do to maintain a consistent vaping experience. For example, you should be storing the juices properly by keeping them in cool, dark places in tinted glass bottles. This way, even when the temps outside get hot, the juices stay cool—thus retaining its consistency and maintaining your vaping experience.

Conclusion

As you can see, you do not have to sit back and deal with an unsatisfying vaping experience when the temperature changes. By investing a little bit of your time and money into purchasing the right kinds of e-juice—as well as safely storing them away—you get to enjoy the perfect drag all year round no matter how hot or cold things get! That said, we always recommend that you experiment with different ratios at different temperatures. That way, you can slowly more understand what you can expect from different types of juices at changing temps, giving you a much better chance of landing the perfect solution to your problem.
